Power BI Dashboards for SAP in Singapore

Finance Reporting Out of SAP, Without the Queue

SAP holds the numbers. Getting a report out of it usually means raising a request and waiting — so finance downloads to Excel instead, and the real reporting happens there. We connect SAP to Power BI and build dashboards your team can use without asking anyone.

Why Power BI for SAP

The Data Is All There. Getting to It Is the Problem.

Reporting Goes Through a Queue

Standard reports cover standard questions. Anything else is a request to IT or a consultant, and by the time it lands the question has moved on.

So Everyone Uses Excel

Download, pivot, format, circulate. It works, and it means the numbers people actually make decisions on live outside the system of record — in files nobody controls.

Specialist Skills to Change Anything

SAP reporting is its own discipline. Finance teams rarely have that skill in-house, so they can't adjust what they've got, which is why the Excel layer exists.

One System, Not the Whole Picture

Plenty of what finance reports on isn't in SAP — the CRM, the operational system, the planning spreadsheet. Combining them is manual, monthly, and fragile.

"SAP" Means Several Different Things

Business One, S/4HANA and older ECC systems store data differently, so the honest answer to "how do you connect SAP to Power BI" starts with a question rather than a method.

01

SAP Business One

Typically mid-market, and a more contained data structure. Usually the most straightforward of the three to model.
02

SAP S/4HANA

Modern architecture with more built-in analytics available, which changes what's worth building custom and what isn't.
03

SAP ECC and older

Long-established systems, often heavily customised over many years. The customisation is usually where the modelling work sits.

Which you're on changes the approach and the scope. That's the first thing we establish, and it's why we don't quote before we've asked.

Getting the Data Across

Two broad routes: an API connection reading from SAP directly, or a scheduled extract delivered securely on a set frequency.

API connection
Scheduled extract
how current
Close to real-time
Usually updated overnight
best for
Daily operational visibility
Month-end, board reporting, trends
IT posture
An API connection, scoped to read-only where possible
No direct access into SAP at all
Suits
Teams with IT capacity to support it
Environments where change control is tight

In larger SAP environments the scheduled route is often preferred, because it doesn't require opening an API connection to a system under strict change control. We build either, and the recommendation comes out of scoping rather than preference.

The Five Dashboards

Five finance views, not five generic templates — each built to your chart of accounts and reading from the same model, so the numbers reconcile. Click through to see what each one covers.

01

Financial Performance

P&L against budget by entity, cost centre and profit centre, with drill-through to the postings behind any number.

SAP and Power BI: Common Questions

Which SAP products do you work with?
The approach differs between Business One, S/4HANA and older ECC systems, so the first thing we establish is which you're on and how heavily it's been customised.
Will this affect our SAP system?
The connection reads data; it doesn't write back and doesn't change how your team uses SAP. Where an API connection isn't appropriate, a scheduled extract removes the question entirely.
Our SAP is heavily customised. Does that matter?
It affects the modelling work rather than whether it's possible. Long-established SAP systems usually carry years of customisation, and mapping it properly is a large part of what the build involves.
Can this include data from outside SAP?
Yes, and it's often where the most useful dashboards come from — combining SAP with CRM, operational systems, or the planning spreadsheets finance maintains.
Who owns the dashboards?
You do. Built in your Power BI workspace under your licences. Nothing switches off if you stop working with us.
Do we need Power BI licences already?
If you're not set up, we'll advise on what's needed and configure the workspace as part of the build.
Are there grants available in Singapore?
Singapore businesses have several support schemes for digital and analytics projects. See our grants page for current criteria.
